Pets from the communities of El Tamal and Motilla, in the municipality of Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, impacted by Hurricane Erika, a category three hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, received veterinary care.

The visit was led by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the University of the Coast (UNCOS), and the Ministry of Environment, Biodiversity, Energy, and Sustainability (SEMAEDESO).

With the authorization of their guardians, the sentient animals were cared for house-to-house, dewormed, and fed.

Susano Tomás Velasco Ruiz, Director of Livestock for the Santiago Pinotepa Nacional Municipality, participated in this work, as well as veterinary staff from UNCOS.

The agency invited people to donate dog food to the collection centers that are collecting aid for hurricane victims.

The hurricane severely affected coastal communities, and donations of various items, including pet food, are being received.
