Young Mexican woman attacked by foreigner in Oaxaca movie theater

A young Mexican woman identified as Sthepany was verbally assaulted by a foreign man inside a movie theater in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

The incident was recorded on video and went viral on social media, sparking outrage and calls to identify and punish the attacker.

Sthepany recounted on her TikTok account (@sthepany.oficial) that the attack occurred for no apparent reason while she was in the company of others. During the movie, the man began hurling insults, forcing them to leave the theater to avoid a larger confrontation.

Gentrification is no longer exclusive to Mexico City: the phenomenon is advancing to southern and southeastern states like Oaxaca and Yucatán, raising housing costs.

The assault continued outside the theater.

However, the incident did not end there. In the shared images, the man, shirtless and with visible tattoos, is seen challenging the young women to a fight and violently insulting them. Outside the theater, the shouts and threats continued.

During the confrontation, the young woman can be heard responding:

“Come on, hit me, we’re going to make you go viral for a while. You’re not in your country, asshole,” the attacked woman said, according to the Heraldo de México.

The foreigner was accompanied by a woman, but neither of them has been identified yet.

They accuse the theater of inaction

The young woman also reported that the theater staff refused to intervene or ask for help from the authorities.

“They told us they hadn’t seen anything and that they weren’t going to do anything. They let him go even though we had already called a patrol car,” she stated in the video.

Social media demands justice

The video has sparked a strong reaction on social media, where users have tried to identify the man through his tattoos. A debate has also begun about the inaction in the face of this type of aggression and the disrespectful behavior of some foreigners in tourist areas of Mexico.

“That’s why they come here trying to impose their rules. If they come, let them adapt; and if they don’t like it, let them go back where they came from,” commented one TikTok user.

Sthepany announced that she will share more information about the case in the coming days.
