The picturesque municipality of José María Morelos in Quintana Roo will be hosting the fourth edition of the Mexican Snake Festival, a celebration of all things serpent-related, from July 18th onwards. This year’s event is part of an eight-destination tour across Mexico, showcasing the country’s rich reptilian heritage.
Located on the Caribbean coast, José María Morelos boasts an incredible array of flora and fauna, making it the perfect location for snake enthusiasts to gather and learn about these fascinating creatures. Over several weeks, visitors can participate in a range of activities designed to educate and entertain, including workshops, conferences, photography exhibitions, and exciting contests.
The festivities will kick off on July 18th with a series of photography workshops at the university campus, focusing on the ecological importance of amphibians and reptiles. Later that day, experts will take to the stage to discuss the incredible diversity of snake species found in the Yucatán Peninsula, also held on the university campus.
In the afternoon and evening, the tourist stop in San Juan neighborhood will come alive with exhibitions coordinated by groups dedicated to preserving amphibians and reptiles. Their aim is to raise awareness about the vital role these animals play in maintaining ecological balance.
The primary objective of the Snake Festival is to promote understanding and appreciation for snakes, which are often misunderstood and unfairly persecuted due to misconceptions about their behavior. By hosting this event, organizers hope to inspire a new generation of reptile lovers and advocates who will work towards protecting these incredible creatures and their habitats.
