During his stay in the Mexican capital for his series of concerts at the Auditorio Nacional, British singer Sam Smith attracted attention on social media after sharing a gastronomic experience in the Roma neighborhood (Álvaro Obregón 100).
Through his secondary social media profile, sam.served, or “Ham Smith,” dedicated to exploring dishes in different countries, the performer documented his visit to a branch of Taquería Orinoco.
From Tlaquepaque to Roma: Sam Smith’s culinary journey
Before arriving in central Mexico, the artist visited a traditional market in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, where he tried quesadillas prepared fresh on a griddle and photographed the walkways characterized by their fruits, vegetables, and colors representative of the local culture.
In his post, the musician greeted his followers with the phrase: “What’s up, piggies! I’m Ham Smith, reporting from Mexico!!!”
The journey then continued in Mexico City. Smith walked through the streets of the Roma neighborhood before entering the taco restaurant, a place that has previously welcomed other international artists such as Rosalía and Dua Lipa.
At the establishment, the British singer observed the vertical spit of al pastor meat, which he compared to an elephant’s leg: “It looks like an elephant’s foot.”
The spicy challenge and his verdict on the tacos
After sitting down at the table, the restaurant staff served a tray with the house salsas and tacos wrapped in toasted flour tortillas with cheese, avocado, and meat.
Smith decided to try the different spicy options available at the table. Although he initially commented that the salsa did not seem particularly spicy, moments later he felt the heat on his palate.
After tasting the taco, the performer highlighted the crispy texture of the preparation and the combination of ingredients. In the video posted on his digital platform, the singer stated: “They’re probably some of the best tacos I’ve ever had in my life.”
According to the video shared on the artist’s food-content account, sam.served, the footage shows the singer reacting with surprise to the amount of al pastor meat cooking at the entrance of the taquería.
He tasted the different salsas directly with a spoon from the glass containers and showed a surprised reaction after trying the spiciest salsa on the table.
Smith concluded the video by saying that his experience at the Mexico City establishment exceeded his gastronomic expectations.
