On the night of Monday, June 30, armed men entered the Gran Plaza in Cancún, Quintana Roo, and robbed a jewelry store, causing panic among people who were enjoying their shopping and spending time with their families.

What was the robbery at the Gran Plaza in Cancún like?

The events occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Monday when at least four armed men entered the plaza with firearms and broke the windows of the “Arte Joyero” jewelry store.

The men were dressed in black, and their faces were not visible because they were hooded. Upon reaching the jewelry store located on the first floor, they threatened the employees and broke the windows.

Hearing the screams of the jewelry store employees and the shattering glass, other stores rushed to close, and customers ran to leave the plaza.

Some people who were in the plaza managed to record the panicked moments on the upper floors after hearing the robbery. One of them captured one of the criminals standing outside the jewelry store to keep watch, while his colleagues broke the store’s windows.

What did the police say after the robbery at Cancún’s Gran Plaza?

The Cancún Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic (SMSCyT) reported that after receiving the report of a robbery inside the Gran Plaza, officers immediately went to the scene to intervene. Upon arrival, they confirmed that no one was injured.

To find those responsible for the robbery at Cancún’s Gran Plaza, authorities launched a search and rescue operation. However, no one has been arrested yet.
