Mérida and its increasing problems

4

Problems in cities like Mérida tend to increase, especially when a misguided administration like Cecilia Patrón Laviada’s is passive in resolving them quickly for the benefit of the people.

Mérida has positioned itself in the second category of cities with the highest incidence of urban problems nationwide, with an alarming 99.7 percent of the population aged 18 and over reporting at least one problem.

Among the worst ones are potholes in streets and avenues, as well as leaks and failures in the drinking water supply, according to the latest National Public Safety Survey.

In the national ranking, Mérida shares a worrying position with cities like Nogales, Sonora, and Uruapan, Michoacán, where 99.7 percent of residents report urban difficulties.

And it is well known that one of the most critical problems for Mérida residents is potholes in the streets, with 93.3 percent of those surveyed expressing this concern.

Regarding security, 34.2 percent of Mérida residents reported problems related to crimes such as robbery, extortion, kidnapping, and fraud.

Finally, and on an equally important note, 62.3 percent of residents believe that the inadequacy and overcrowding of hospitals negatively impacts the quality of medical care.
