A new incident of violence shook the Mexico-Puebla highway in the early hours of Wednesday, after a group of criminals assaulted a public transportation vehicle at kilometer 19, in the area known as La Virgen, located in the municipality of Los Reyes La Paz, in the State of Mexico.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m., when at least two individuals boarded a bus with passengers heading toward the San Lázaro metro station in Mexico City.
At the aforementioned point, the individuals pulled out firearms and began threatening passengers, demanding their valuables.
During the struggle with one of the passengers who allegedly resisted the robbery, one of the assailants fired his firearm, wounding a man named Marco Antonio N.
The victim was treated at the scene by personnel from the Federal Highways and Bridges (Capufe) Department of Transportation, who provided pre-hospital care before transferring him to a nearby hospital. His condition is currently reported to be stable.
The assailants got out of the vehicle after committing the robbery and fled in an unknown direction.
Members of the National Guard Highway Division responded to the scene to cordon off the area, gather witnesses, and conduct an operation.
Despite the operation, no arrests of those responsible have been reported as of press time. Authorities have already opened an investigation to determine their whereabouts and hold them accountable for these events.
This incident adds to the growing concern among public transportation users about this highway, considered one of the most dangerous in the State of Mexico due to the frequency of violent robberies.
Passengers have reiterated their call for increased security on this highway and public transportation routes connecting the State of Mexico with the capital, to prevent further incidents of this type that put the lives of passengers at risk.
