Yucatán to Relaunch Ki-Huic Tourism Fair to Promote the Mayan World

At the regional meeting of the Mayan World Organization held in Belize, the State Government announced the return of the tourism fair, which will be held in Mérida from June 2 to 5, 2026.

With the goal of consolidating Yucatán as a regional tourism hub, the Government of the Mayan Renaissance, through the Secretariat for Tourism Development (Sefotur), participated in the 71st Meeting of the Regional Commission of the Mayan World Organization, held in Placencia, Belize.

During the meeting, which took place from June 30 to July 2, Raúl Paz Noriega, Undersecretary of Sustainable Tourism Development of Sefotur, presented preliminary information on the relaunch of the Ki-Huic tourism fair of the Mayan World, which will be held in 2026 and will be held at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center in the Yucatecan capital.

Before representatives from Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, representing Mexico, as well as Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, the official explained that this important event will be revived after more than 12 years at the initiative of Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, and emphasized that it will have the support of the federal Ministry of Tourism, headed by Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

Paz Noriega indicated that the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, as well as the countries of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, are invited to participate in Ki-Huic with the best of their tourism offerings aimed at an international audience.

“Under the presidency of the Mundo Maya Organization, which Mexico will assume next year, Ki-Huic will be held in Mérida from June 2 to 5, 2026, and will be a tourism, commercial, academic, and promotional event for the Mundo Maya region,” stated the Undersecretary.

“This event will bring together buyers and sellers of tourism products, as well as service providers in the sector, and will place special emphasis on sustainable and community-based tourism, which will be the hallmark of the multi-destination Mundo Maya,” he emphasized.

Hosted by Belize’s Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, and Ana Beatriz González, Technical Secretary of the Mundo Maya Organization, this 71st Meeting featured conferences, forums, and a business roundtable coordinated by the Belize Chamber of Tourism.

These activities were part of the joint effort with the private sector, whose entrepreneurs comprise the value chain that makes the commercialization of Mundo Maya possible.

Representing the Mexican Government, Vladimir Hernández Lara, Head of Foreign Affairs and Political Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Belize, participated in the meetings, where key actions to strengthen regional positioning were discussed, as well as measures to improve connectivity and tourism facilitation among member countries.

As a result of this international link, Undersecretary Paz Noriega reported that Yucatán was invited to participate in the Central America Travel Market 2025 fair, an exclusive platform for the promotion and marketing of regional tourism, which will take place from October 21 to 23, 2025 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and will bring together key players in the international tourism industry.
