Sinaloa was the most violent state in June

Marcela Figueroa, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, indicated that in “the first half of 2025, 70.5 intentional homicides were reported daily nationwide, a 29.9% decrease compared to 2018, when 100.5 homicides were reported daily.”

During the People’s Morning Press Conference, the official presented the latest data on security in Mexico, highlighting that Sinaloa ranked as the most violent state in June, while Guanajuato topped the list of homicides so far in 2025.

“For the first time in this series, we identified Sinaloa as the most violent state, accounting for 10.5 percent of total homicides nationwide.

Guanajuato is in second place, accounting for 8.7 percent of the national total this month.

And Baja California is in third place, with 8.2 percent,” she indicated.

In its assessment of the first nine months of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) reported that the daily average of intentional homicides nationwide decreased from 86.9 reported cases to 65.6 between June 2024 and June 2025, which represents a 24.5% reduction.

This decrease was reported by the 32 state prosecutor’s offices, making June the month with the lowest homicide rate since 2016.

Furthermore, the first half of 2025 was considered the period with the fewest homicides since that year.

The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) detailed that Sinaloa led the index of intentional homicides, ranking first among the seven most violent states, which accounted for 54% of the homicides recorded in June.
