Three people were arrested in the municipality of Apatzingán, Michoacán, for involvement in the crime of extortion, in response to the national strategy against this crime promoted by the Federal Government.
Last Sunday, Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration announced the National Strategy against Extortion, with the goal of preventing and combating this crime that affects the population.
The strategy will be implemented with priority attention in the eight states that account for 66% of extortion incidents: State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Nuevo León, Mexico City, Veracruz, Jalisco, Guerrero, and Michoacán.
A statement from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) details that the detainees are two men and a woman linked to the crime of extortion.
It is also reported that the arrest was carried out in coordination with members of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), the SSPC, and the Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Public Security of Michoacán.
The document reports that, following up on the investigation, the operation of individuals demanding payment via text messages from residents of Apatzingán was identified. Based on the information gathered, a controlled operation was deployed in the second neighborhood of San Lázaro.
Three individuals involved in the extortion were identified at the scene, told to stop, and informed of the reason for their arrest.
Therefore, the two men, aged 28 and 53, along with the 46-year-old woman, were detained, informed of their legal rights, and brought before the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will determine their legal status and compile the case file.
