Comedian and content creator Paul El Alemán surprised his followers by revealing that he paid 500 Mexican pesos for a single bottle of “caguama” (940 ml beer) at a Mexican restaurant in Germany. In a TikTok video, the influencer, who divides his time between Europe and Latin America, jokingly called the drink “Mexican champagne” due to its high price outside of Mexico.
In his post, Paul compared the costs between the two countries: “A taco that tastes like shit costs 100 pesos,” he said, referring to the high prices of Mexican food in Germany. While in Mexico a caguama can cost between 44 and 53 pesos in supermarkets, in Europe the price skyrockets. “With what I paid here, I can buy three boxes in Mexico,” he said, laughing.
The video, which went viral, not only generated humor among his followers, but also reflections on how expensive typical Mexican products are abroad. “Mexicans, value what you have because when you leave your country you’re going to suffer,” advised the comedian, who added, “I felt poor in my own country.”
Paul El Alemán, known for his humorous content, took advantage of the situation to highlight the cultural value of Mexican beer, albeit with an ironic twist. So far, the video has garnered thousands of reactions, with users sharing similar experiences about the difficulty of finding authentic Mexican food at affordable prices outside the country.
