Zacatecas already has three World Heritage Site designations. The latest is the Wixárika Route of Sacred Sites to Wirikuta.
Its inscription took place during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Paris, France, on July 12.

In Zacatecas, the Wixárika Route encompasses the municipalities of Monte Escobedo, Valparaíso, Susticacán, Jerez, and the capital of Zacatecas, where Makwipa (The Father’s Hill) and Tatei Nuhuetecame (The Blowhole Hill) are the main attractions.

HOW IS IT INTEGRATED?

This designation includes 20 sacred sites, distributed throughout the north-central region of the country: Nayarit, Durango, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas.

Specifically, in Zacatecas, the route passes through Cuyetsarie, Monte Escobedo; Xurahue Mayuca, better known as Sierra de Cardos, encompasses Jerez de García Salinas, Susticacán, Tepetongo, and Valparaíso.
In addition to Cupuri Mutiú and Cacai Macuipa, known as Cerro Del Padre, Tatei Nuhuetecame, on Cerro de Bufa.
Regarding this appointment, the head of the federal Ministry of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, emphasized that the declaration is of “great importance for our country, in times of profound democratic transformation.”
In addition to being the first time in Latin America that a cultural expression linked to indigenous traditions, living and Vicente has received this designation.
