Following the murder of Commander David Cristóbal Barraza Sainz, alias “Nitro,” on July 15, unofficial information has emerged indicating that the commander was allegedly threatened. In response, the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) reported that support and security measures for police officers facing threats are handled directly between the affected officers and their superiors, who decide on the specific actions to be taken.

Verona Hernández, spokesperson for the agency, indicated that “the issue of threats or risks they see is discussed directly with their superiors, and they are the ones who determine what measures are appropriate for each particular case, and each officer makes decisions based on their own circumstances.”

Although some officers have been publicly identified or threatened through social media, banners, or the media, the SSPE did not specify how many officers have received special protection measures.

The spokesperson emphasized that, with the arrival of the current administration headed by Security Secretary Óscar Rentería, changes were implemented in the assignment of officers to improve their security, although the names and number of reassigned officers were not detailed.

Regarding the losses of police personnel in the context of the current dispute, no concrete figures were provided during the conference.
