Independent photojournalist Luz del Alba Velasco Gordillo reported an operation carried out on July 12, 2025, at her home in the Cruz Grande neighborhood of Comitán de Domínguez.
According to a letter published by Velasco on Sunday, July 20, addressed to national authorities and organizations such as the CNDH and Article 19, the search was led by the Chiapas Attorney General’s Office, with support from the VII Military Region and the National Guard.
Velasco explained that she was not at home at the time of the operation and that she learned of the raid days later.
She indicated that the officers did not show a warrant to search her home and that the street was blocked off by official vehicles during the operation.
She added that through surveillance video, she was able to verify that the officers forced the lock on the main door, causing damage.
The photojournalist emphasized that her home has been a cultural and journalistic space, where she conducts interviews and carries out activities related to cultural and social outreach.
She also mentioned that her work has included coverage in conflict-ridden regions of Chiapas and along the border with Guatemala for the past four years.
Velasco expressed concern about possible reprisals stemming from this operation and requested an official version from the authorities regarding the motive for the search, as well as information on any warrants or arrest warrants issued against her.
Finally, she announced that in the coming hours she will file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), considering this operation an attack on her journalistic work.
According to the photojournalist, the complaint was filed on July 20, 2025, and the request for official information from the competent authorities remains open.
