In the Mexican port of Cancún, three Cuban migrants managed to escape a kidnapping and sought help at the National Guard facilities, local media reported.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 22, activated the security force’s victim assistance protocols, whose officers immediately protected the victims and notified the relevant authorities.

According to the report from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office, the three men showed up at the Cancún base at 6:23 a.m. after escaping from a safe house located in Region 221, where they were being held.

The local prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation to clarify the events. Authorities are seeking to determine whether this case is related to illicit activities such as human trafficking, extortion, or other crimes.

The three Cubans were referred to the appropriate authorities for medical and psychological care, while authorities continue their investigations.

This incident highlights a growing problem in Mexico, where several Cuban citizens have been reported as victims of kidnapping, especially those seeking to reach the United States.

The kidnapping of Cubans in Mexico has become a worrying trend, especially given the perception that many have relatives in the US willing to pay large sums for their release.

Mexican authorities, in collaboration with international organizations, are intensifying efforts to dismantle these criminal networks, which exploit the vulnerability of migrants in transit northward.

Cubans are released after a kidnapping in southern Mexico

An operation carried out last May, following a citizen complaint, allowed Mexican agents to rescue eight Cuban migrants who had been deprived of their liberty by human traffickers in the city of Tapachula, Chiapas. According to local media reports, the criminals also extorted the victims.

According to official reports, the Cubans were kidnapped upon arriving in Mexico and held in a house located in the Centro neighborhood. The captors demanded a payment of $200 per person to release the migrants.

The rescue was carried out by members of the State Police, the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force (FRIP), the Ministerial Investigation and Intelligence Agency (AIIM), and the Preventive Police. The migrants were taken into the custody of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office.
