Education is a right for all, but immigrants sometimes drop out of school for various reasons, and this is a problem recognized by Alejandra Bologna, Mexico’s Consul General in San José.

“It’s undoubtedly a great opportunity, because there are many people who want to continue their education and who, due to life issues, came here and are working, but still have that urge to get better,” said Bolgna.

For this reason, the Mexican Ministry of Public Education offers a free option for Mexicans and their fellow citizens to continue their studies with the so-called Prepa en Línea (SEP) program.

“We hope many of our fellow citizens enroll. Why? Because it can be the leap to later studying at a college or university; this can give them a boost,” said Bologna.

Studying high school online can open the door to higher education and possible job opportunities. Currently, more than 750 Mexicans living abroad are studying for their high school diploma through this program.

To participate in the program, you must complete a registration form and answer a socioeconomic background questionnaire.

What are the requirements for admission to the program?

You must have Mexican nationality.

Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) and birth certificate.

High school diploma or equivalent.

You must have two valid, personal, and non-transferable email addresses that have not been used in previous programs.

Upon acceptance, you will receive access to the virtual classroom, which will contain resources such as audios, videos, infographics, and PDF readings. All of this can be accessed via mobile devices or computers. You will have access to the classroom 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
