International kayakers from Santiago, Beatriz “Rusa” Briones, Karina Alanís, and Maricela Montemayor, will lead the Mexican delegation at the 2025 World Championships in Italy scheduled for August.
Briones and Alanís, Olympians at the 2024 Paris Games, and Montemayor, a senior world medalist, will compete in the K2 500-meter event, and along with Montemayor and Guadalajara native Isabel Aburto, will compete in the K4 500-meter event.
Jesús Valdez, head of the State Canoeing Association and member of the national canoeing federation, confirmed the global challenge that Nuevo León’s representatives will face in Milan after shining in the 2025 World Cup series.
“In August, we will have five kayakers from Casa Bote del Inde competing in the most important events of the year: Briones, Alanís, and Montemayor in Italy, and Ximena Hernández and Daniela Salazar at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción,” explained Valdez.
Alanís and Briones placed fifth (K2 500 meters) at the 2025 Poland Canoeing World Cup, while in Hungary, both, along with Montemayor in the K4 500 meters, took seventh place.
