Driver killed during attempted robbery. A truck driver died today, July 29, after being shot by suspected armed criminals while driving on the Mexico–Tuxpan Highway, near the municipality of Tulancingo, Hidalgo.

The attackers attempted to steal the heavy vehicle, but when he resisted the assault, the driver was shot and killed inside the cab of the refrigerated trailer.

How did the attempted robbery on the Mexico–Tuxpan Highway occur?

According to initial reports, the attempted robbery occurred in the morning when a group of criminals attempted to stop the moving vehicle, which led to a chase on that section of federal highway.

The driver, in a desperate attempt to escape the robbery, maintained control of the trailer until he was hit by several gunshots, causing him to lose control and die inside the cab, which was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Following the attack, witnesses traveling in the area requested assistance from the authorities, so members of the National Guard, the Highway Division, and state police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the scene, allowing for the beginning of forensic investigations. Traffic was partially diverted to prevent further damage.

Officers also launched an operation to find the perpetrators, who allegedly fled in a black pickup truck in an unknown direction.

This crime has sparked outrage among truck drivers traveling in the area, who have denounced and exposed the danger of this stretch of highway, demanding concrete actions to ensure their safety in the face of the increase in armed robberies.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Hidalgo has already opened an investigation into intentional homicide, while ballistics examinations and review of nearby video surveillance cameras continue, searching for clues that may lead to the location of the attackers.
