The governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal, announced that in upcoming strategic projects coming to the state, such as the installation of Fermachem in Lerdo, investment companies will be required to hire reliable and transparent national companies to avoid fraud.
During his visit to Lerdo to deliver the Sacramento Sports Center project, Villegas noted that this measure also seeks to ensure that part of the economic impact remains in the state, as will be done with the El Tunal II dam, and to avoid incidents such as the one involving a Chinese firm that left a debt of 130 million pesos to eight Mexican companies that participated in the construction of the CFE combined-cycle plant in Villa Juárez.
National companies required to hire local suppliers
The state governor emphasized that large investments will be required to partner with national construction companies, which will allow the government greater control over non-compliance. He also emphasized that these national companies will be able to subcontract with regional companies, which will multiply the benefits for local suppliers and workers.
In the specific case of Fermachem, a company that will build a green fertilizer plant with an investment of more than $1 billion, the mayor of Lerdo, Homero Martínez Cabrera, has scheduled a meeting this Wednesday with company executives to receive the project plans.
With this, an extraordinary session is expected to be presented to the City Council to authorize the earthworks, a process that will subsequently be referred to the State Congress, with the goal of kicking off the construction project as quickly as possible.
Industrial corridor between Durango and La Laguna
Villegas announced that in addition to this project, there are others in the pipeline for municipalities such as Mapimí, Tlahualilo, and Gómez Palacio, and they are also seeking to spur investment in Cuencamé, taking advantage of advantages such as the availability of natural gas and the upcoming arrival of fiber optics.
“This could create a very interesting industrial corridor from Durango to La Laguna, where I hope, with the progress we made with Homero Martínez and now with Susy Torrecillas as the new mayor, all these projects can materialize,” he concluded.
