Uber announced the official launch of its new Uber Reserve service, which will allow domestic and international tourists visiting Cancun to book a taxi ride from Cancun International Airport.
As a result of the partnership between Uber and Flex Eco Taxi, tourists arriving in Cancun will be able to reserve a taxi through the Uber app up to 30 days in advance. This new feature aims to provide greater certainty, convenience, and efficiency for travelers looking to avoid long lines or fare negotiations upon landing.
“Cancun is our calling to much of the world, and that’s why we want all tourists who come to Cancun to have the best possible experience with us,” explained Juan Pablo Eiroa, general manager of Uber Mexico.
According to Uber, this new reservation system will be simple, as users only need to enter their flight number and trip date in the Uber app. Once they land, they only need to confirm with a click within the app that they are ready to depart.
The driver assigned to provide the ride will receive a notification on their phone and will go to the meeting point designated by the app. According to Uber, this process aims to streamline passenger flow at Cancún International Airport and reduce the chaos that often occurs due to the large number of tourists arriving at this airport.
The Uber Reserve option with taxis marks a new mode of transportation within the Uber app, given that Cancún has been one of the platform’s priority cities for several years, despite conflicts with taxi drivers from the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Drivers Union, who have claimed that the app’s operation in the city creates unfair competition.
“Cancún is a priority city for Uber and stands out for having a wide variety of products available within the app. In recent years, taxi-type vehicles have been incorporated in the city and at the airport,” the platform added in a statement.
