Five people, including two former public officials from the municipality of Apulco, were arrested during a coordinated operation targeting alleged criminal cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and criminal groups responsible for violence with a presence in Apulco, Zacatecas.
In the initial operation, a search was carried out at a property located in the Brisas neighborhood of the municipality of Nochistlán, where four people were arrested, including Mauro Yuriel “N,” 30, who, according to sources consulted by Infobae Mexico, had an arrest warrant for attempted aggravated homicide and served as mayor of Apulco in September 2024. He was later removed from office for criminal association, homicide, and kidnapping.
At the same address, Andy Edgardo “N,” 29, Mauro Yuriel’s brother, was arrested. Ricardo “N,” 25, and Eduardo Gabriel “N,” 23.
Long and short weapons of various calibers were seized at the property, as well as cartridges, magazines, drug doses, a vehicle, and ballistic vests bearing the acronym CJNG.
The operation was carried out by members of the Navy, the Ministry of National Defense, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, in coordination with the state Attorney General’s Office. The operation stemmed from a search warrant obtained following intelligence work related to crimes such as attempted murder and criminal association.
Another alleged member of the CJNG was arrested in a simultaneous operation; he was also a Zacatecas official.
In another simultaneous operation, Juan Antonio “N,” 44, was arrested. According to our source, he served as City Secretary of Apulco and was already under investigation for alleged ties to the criminal group in question.
The five detainees were informed of their rights and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status in the coming hours.
Authorities indicated that this operation is part of a sustained strategy to weaken criminal organizations operating in the state and reiterated their commitment to the pacification of Zacatecas, an entity severely hit by organized crime in recent years.
