The vacation of José Ramón López Beltrán, son of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has been criticized after various Morena officials were caught vacationing in Tokyo and Europe in recent weeks.
According to the media outlet E-ntorno, José Ramón López Beltrán and his wife have been staying at the Vidanta Riviera Maya complex in Cancún, a five-star resort owned by Daniel Chávez, for the past two weeks.
Images of AMLO’s son and his wife relaxing in the hotel’s pools have even been released. A room at this complex costs around “9,800 pesos per night in its most affordable category (The Grand Mayan) and can reach up to 30,000 pesos per night in its Grand Luxxe category,” E-ntorno detailed.
However, staying at Vidanta Riviera Maya for the duration of José Ramón López’s stay, i.e., 14 days, would cost at least 137,000 pesos and could rise to 400,000 pesos with gourmet meals, a spa, exclusive activities, and transportation.
This is not López Beltrán’s first scandal. He was compromised in 2022 after a report by Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) and Latinus was leaked, revealing the rental of a luxurious mansion in Houston, which AMLO’s son lived in.
Andy López Beltrán was photographed at a hotel in Tokyo last month. Andrés López Beltrán, who is the Organization Secretary of Morena (Morena), was seen at the Okura Hotel, a five-star hotel in Tokyo.
Images circulating on social media showed AMLO’s son accompanied by Congressman Daniel Asaf, the former president’s right-hand man. The hotel, considered one of the most exclusive in Japan, has rates ranging from 92,000 yen (approximately 11,550 pesos) to 392,000 yen (approximately 49,213 pesos) per night.
In response, Sheinbaum emphasized that although everyone has the right to free movement, those who represent the Fourth Transformation must behave appropriately and be responsible.
