Unlike almost all museums in the country, admission to the Centro Cultural de los Altos, with its halls of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), and the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya (CTMM), located in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, is free.

Karla Faro, coordinator of educational services at the CTMM, was responsible for announcing this news and added that “it is well worth exploring these wonderful spaces located in the former Santo Domingo Convent, a historical monument in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.”

“Admission is completely free. Remember that it is one of the few museums in the country where, by decision of the INAH, there is no charge,” she reiterated.

In an interview, she noted that the museum “offers two halls on the ground floor where we can explore archaeological collections with pieces from various parts of Chiapas.”

On the upper floor, he added, “we have two of the most important textile collections in the Americas; textiles from Chiapas and Guatemala, and we have an incredible museography.”

He explained that in this space, “we have drawers that open and you can find the textiles. We think of it as a library, an open archive so everyone can enjoy these wonderful textiles.”

Faro invited the general public to visit the museum “to get to know us. The facilities are open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.”
