Expo Can 2025 will take place on August 17th at the Poliforum sports dome, where purebred and mixed-breed dogs will be able to participate in competitions and activities designed to foster coexistence and respect for animals.
The event, organized by RM Canine Training and the Sports Institute, will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with free admission. Attendees can donate two kilos of dog food, which will be delivered to the Center for Animal Control, Assistance, and Zoonosis (CENCAAZ).
According to dog trainer and organizer Rubén Mejía Gordillo, the Expo’s purpose is to offer equal conditions to all dogs, regardless of breed, to strengthen the bond between people and pets. “The Expo doesn’t just mean purebred dogs; it means dogs of all types, purebred and non-purebred, because what matters is the bond, not genetics,” he noted.
Playa del Carmen’s dogs will have a social event.
The program includes beauty contests, basic obedience tests, agility courses, and costume parades, open to all participating dogs. There will also be raffles with prizes such as pet products and dog insurance, which can be entered with a food donation.
Expo Can will feature interactive spaces for the whole family, including games, presentations with mascots, training demonstrations, and advice from local trainers. For this second edition, the move to the sports dome will allow activities to be held in a covered space with better conditions for the public and participants.
The event seeks to establish itself as a meeting point to promote a culture of respect, empathy, and animal welfare in the community, in addition to contributing to the support of dogs in the care of CENCAAZ (National Center for Animal Welfare) through a food collection.
