User Crispis96 uploaded a nearly three-minute video to TikTok where she mentioned the things she “still can’t get used to” despite living in the country for four years.
At the beginning of the video, she mentions that this isn’t a criticism: “I’ve adapted really well to the country, to its people, to the culture, to everything, but there are some things that, because of my personality or how I was raised or whatever, are difficult for me,” she added.
“I get a severe seasonal depression,” she commented.
The first thing she mentioned is “the rainy season.” Compared to living in Madrid, the activities she does here are very different. “The rainy season comes and I get a severe seasonal depression,” she added.
She commented that these are usually difficult months for her: “I’m in the first month of rain, with seasonal depression. I don’t want to leave my couch, not one afternoon. While I’m recording, the thunder is rumbling. It’s not raining here, so you can say, ‘Well, there are little sparks here, such and such,’ you can go for a walk, no, no, no, it’s a killer, flooding rain,” she noted.
She ended the video by saying: “I just want to sit on the couch, watch Gilmore Girls, put Taylor Swift on in the background, and watch the rain and get depressed. It’s something I really struggle with. I need advice on how you manage to keep wanting to leave your house during this rain.”
Users react to her video
The video, with more than 600,000 views, has generated mixed opinions. The topic is closely related to everything related to gentrification and the negative attitudes of foreigners, and is often something that is talked about daily.
Because of this, the video was filled with comments like “And when are you leaving?”, “Your ancestors also liked Mexico” or “Investigate if that lady pays taxes as she should”, to some much more friendly ones like “I understand you sister, I am Mexican and I HATE the rainy season, I wouldn’t want to go out either”, “Seasonal depression IS REAL, it happens to me too hahaha” and “Nooo enjoy the rain buy some rain boots a raincoat and go out for a walk embrace the rain it has its charm”, are some of the comments on the publication.
