If you’re planning to travel by road this holiday season, you should know that electronic payment has already begun on several federal highways, some of them in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, through TAGs (Tags for Vehicles), according to Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe).
This is expected to expedite long lines of vehicles paying in cash, reduce travel times, and eliminate physical contact to reduce health risks.
Although it is unknown how many or which highways will implement this payment method, it was reported that the modifications will be made gradually, with advance notice to users. However, it is important to mention that some toll booths already operate exclusively with TAGs.
For users who are just becoming aware of this measure, confusion may arise, as there are also different TAGs accepted. The main one is the IAVE, as it is the “official” one for Capufe. However, if you want to explore other options to compare prices and places to buy, we’ll tell you all about them here.
