The municipal government of Playa del Carmen, led by President Estefanía Mercado, announced the first edition of the Dog Beach Festival, which will take place on Saturday, August 23rd, in Plaza 28 de Julio, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The festival, organized by the Dog Beach collective in coordination with local authorities, aims to consolidate the municipality as a leading destination for pet-friendly culture, in addition to promoting respect for animals and strengthening the social fabric.
At a press conference, the Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, Antón Bojórquez, emphasized that the city council supports the initiative by prioritizing animal care and protection. He also announced that 40 local entrepreneurs, as well as representatives from the CENCAAZ (National Commission for Environmental Protection) and the Environmental Protection Agency (Operación de Protección al Ambiente) will participate.
For her part, Tourism Secretary Estefanía Hernández announced that the official unveiling of the Pet Friendly Route will take place during the festival, which will identify restaurants, hotels, cafes, cenotes, and Playa 72 as spaces adapted for visitors with pets.
The event will include contests, products and services for pets, as well as talks, workshops, and adoption days. According to the organizing group, the initiative also seeks to boost the local economy and respond to the growing demand for pet-friendly tourism.
