The admiral Carlos Manuel Bandala González was removed from his position amid allegations involving child trafficking, human trafficking, and a corruption network within Mexico’s Secretariat of Foreign Affairs.
The removal of the immigration official came after allegations concerning the registration of fictitious children of Cuban nationals in order to obtain residency.
According to the complaint, the alleged scheme consisted of registering minors as the children of foreign nationals even though there was allegedly no genuine family relationship, with the purpose of facilitating the acquisition of legal residency in Mexico.
The procedures allegedly cost between 120,000 and 140,000 pesos per person.
The scheme allegedly relied on false information and, in some cases, surnames associated with the applicants themselves to create the appearance of family ties and gain access to family-unification regularization procedures.
If confirmed, these practices could involve several illegal activities, including document forgery, identity theft, human trafficking, and the improper use of public records.
