With eight restaurants recognized with mentions in the Michelin Guide, Tulum has established itself as the destination with the strongest presence of this distinction in Quintana Roo. The restaurant sector is therefore seeking to take advantage of this strength to promote and consolidate the municipality’s culinary scene.
Karla Medel, representative of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) in Tulum, emphasized that establishments with Michelin recognition can become the driving force behind greater visibility for the area’s gastronomic offerings.
She noted that these distinctions are the result of the efforts of restaurant owners, chefs, and their teams, but they also represent a fundamental element in strengthening Tulum’s image as a gastronomic destination.
“These Michelin mentions, which they have earned through their efforts and those of everyone representing these restaurants, also make them a fundamental part of us, the restaurant industry, as a symbol of Tulum,” she said.
Medel highlighted that the presence of restaurants recognized by the Michelin Guide helps generate greater promotion for the destination while also benefiting other gastronomic establishments.
“They also help restaurants gain much more visibility. Tulum has tremendous visibility thanks to its mentions,” she stated.
The Canirac representative called on restaurants with this distinction to join the business chamber, with the goal of strengthening the sector and creating greater coordination among establishments of different sizes and levels of recognition.
“We also want to invite these restaurants to join our chamber so that we can become stronger, from the smallest establishment to those with Michelin mentions,” she said.
According to Medel, Quintana Roo has 13 Michelin mentions, eight of which correspond to restaurants located in Tulum, placing the municipality in a prominent position within the state’s gastronomic landscape.
“We are truly a municipality with many strengths in gastronomy. We are very strong. So we need to promote this and make ourselves known,” she concluded.
