With the aim of strengthening the local economy, promoting gastronomy, and highlighting the tourist attractions of its communities, the Tulum City Council announced the 2026 Lobster Festival, which will take place from August 21 to 23 in Punta Allen and the municipal seat.

The event’s presentation was led by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, who emphasized that the festival has become a tradition that celebrates the gastronomic and cultural richness of Punta Allen while creating opportunities for residents, service providers, and visitors.

“I want to thank everyone involved in making this event possible, which has already become a tradition and was born in a beautiful destination like Punta Allen. I invite everyone to go and take advantage of these activities; events like these help reactivate our economy, promote our destination, and strengthen our community ties,” he said.

Punta Allen will host the festival’s opening ceremony on August 21.

For her part, Tourism Director Haydée Hernández said that the festival seeks to expand Tulum’s gastronomic offerings and create new opportunities for local communities through activities centered around lobster.

“This festival seeks to continue strengthening the gastronomic offerings in Tulum and create opportunities for our communities. We are working closely with the Economic Development Department,” she said.

Activities will begin on Friday, August 21, in Punta Allen, with an official opening ceremony followed by a day combining sports, gastronomy, and culture.

Restaurants and service providers will participate in the gastronomic activities.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m., there will be sporting competitions, a lobster cooking contest, and a competition featuring outfits made from recycled materials, along with music and dancing for residents and visitors.

On August 22 and 23, the festival will move to the municipal seat of Tulum, where the program will include a 5-kilometer marathon, food sales by local restaurants and hotels, a cooking contest, a cycling ride, folk dancing, and musical performances.

The festival seeks to promote the gastronomy and traditions of Tulum’s communities.

With this celebration, the Tulum City Council seeks to establish the Lobster Festival as a space to promote local culinary talent, strengthen economic activity, and bring families and visitors together.

The program will also help showcase Punta Allen and Tulum as destinations that combine natural, cultural, and gastronomic richness, with lobster as one of the main ingredients of a celebration designed to preserve traditions and generate benefits for local communities.
