The protesters said that approximately 150 members of the police force arrived at the scene in nine trucks, and were blocked by approximately 200 residents for 12 hours.

Residents claimed that security forces arrived in the community around 5:00 a.m. this Friday, took them by surprise, and raided at least 200 homes, without presenting search warrants to justify the police actions.

Among the abuses reported by those affected were the theft of electrical appliances, jewelry, and cash.

The Undersecretary of Political and Social Development of the State of Guerrero, Francisco Rodríguez Cisneros, arrived at the scene with state police officers to begin a dialogue with the protesters.

Dozens of transporters from Tierra Colorada, the municipal seat of Juan R. Escudero, joined the blockade by the residents of Tlayolapa.

Televisions, jewelry, and up to 5 million pesos were among the stolen items.

During a meeting with local residents, Rodríguez Cisneros emphasized that the government led by Evelyn Salgado Pineda is committed to conciliation and dialogue, and stated that if abuses of authority are confirmed during the early morning operation, those responsible will be punished.

Daniel Rosas Martínez, who identified himself as the residents’ lawyer, stated that during the searches, security forces seized a total of 27 computers, 5,335,000 pesos in cash, 60 televisions, 43 cell phones, and 10 kilos of gold jewelry from 219 homes. The damage was estimated at approximately 34,281,000 pesos.

The officers from the National Guard, the Mexican Army, and the State Police were released after talks with the state official and the reiterated commitment that if abuses by security forces are proven, they will be punished.
