To encourage sports tourism, President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration announced “Unstoppable Mexico,” a series of four races in Chiapas, Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Chihuahua, to be held between September 2025 and June 2026.

“Unstoppable Mexico is an initiative with races in four main locations and is linked to sports tourism,” explained President Claudia Sheinbaum.

In her morning press conference, the president emphasized that the term “unstoppable” is important because it describes the communities of Mexico.

“Unstoppable Mexico is very symbolic; it represents, of course, the Rarámuri people, unstoppable and resilient indigenous peoples, and it represents Mexico because Mexico is unstoppable,” she stated.

Where and when will the races be?

Mirna Beatriz De la Cruz Álvarez, athlete and leader of the “Unstoppable Mexico” project, explained that the project consists of a series of races that merge sport with cultural identity and conscious tourism with a social impact.

“Each event celebrates the country’s diversity and connects with its roots by traveling through emblematic territories,” she stated.

The four venues are:

Chiapas: The race will take place on September 14, 2025.
Mexico City: December 7, 2025.
Oaxaca: March 22, 2026.
Chihuahua: June 7, 2026.

She explained that “Unstoppable Mexico” aims to promote sports talent, and will provide financial and logistical support to low-income indigenous athletes for their professional development. Promote inclusion by creating a participatory and representative space for all, as well as awakening national pride that comes with celebrating cultural diversity and recognizing the value of Indigenous roots.

“It also seeks to establish itself as a leading annual race series promoting sports and social inclusion in Mexico,” he indicated.

Each race is designed to activate local economies, raise awareness of Indigenous peoples, and promote local tourism.

The funds raised from registration fees and sponsorships will be invested in the social impact of the communities.

“They will be invested in social impact, including sports scholarships, free cultural events to strengthen the community, support for health, education, infrastructure, and sustainable initiatives. Each series not only leaves a mark on the runners but also on the communities that host them,” he indicated.
