Kylie Minogue reconnected with the Mexican public on Friday night, and the experience was better than she imagined.
The Australian star had performed in the country for the first and only time in 2011, and on her return to a packed Palacio de los Deportes stadium with nearly 15,000 fans, she took the time to thank them for their loyalty on several occasions.
“Everyone said you were going to be incredible, but nothing really prepared us. You are sensational. Thank you so, so much,” she said toward the end of her concert.
In one of the most moving moments, Minogue moved to a platform at the back of the dance floor to be closer to the rear stands. There, she asked what songs they wanted and performed some a cappella. She also dedicated “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” originally by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, to a fan who began to cry.
Perched on the platform, Minogue noted that during the pandemic, with travel restrictions, she longed to be able to reconnect with the public while writing and producing her album “Disco” in her own home.
“It’s a dream for me, honestly, because back then it felt like a dream when we were going to see each other,” she said. “This was the dream, to sing this song, and specifically to sing it in the middle of an arena. It took a few years, but we’re here together, and it’s happening, so sing along,” she added before singing “Say Something” in an acoustic version accompanied by a guitar.
Minogue, who performed as part of her Tension world tour, gave a comprehensive rundown of her discography at the concert, from her 1987 hit “The Loco-Motion” to “Padam,” which earned her the Grammy for Best Pop Dance Recording in 2024.
Obviously, “In Your Eyes,” “Can’t Get You out of My Head,” and “I Believe in You,” among other hits, were a must-see. She was accompanied by eight dancers, a catwalk, and a giant disco ball that got the audience dancing.
Her tour will continue with performances in the Mexican cities of Guadalajara and Monterrey.
