In a press release, the state government announced that Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena led the second day of activities for the 7th China Paper Balloon Festival 2025 in Tahmek, where he celebrated this celebration of creativity that brings together visitors from across the state, as well as local artisans and countries such as Brazil, Colombia, and France.

The event began on the town’s soccer field with the raising of a commemorative Mayan Renaissance balloon, crafted by local artisans using more than 5,000 pieces of paper over four months of work.

Accompanied by Mayor Julio Soberanis Argüelles, Díaz Mena emphasized that this festival is possible thanks to community unity and pride in preserving Yucatecan traditions.

“Watching these balloons, created by artisans, rise into the sky is also watching the rise of hope, dreams, and the cultural strength that unites us as Yucatecans. This festival was born from the collective effort of families who organized to rescue a tradition and transform it into a gathering place, a tourist attraction, and an economic source for the entire community,” he noted.
