For mezcal lovers and those just beginning to learn about this Mexican spirit, it is important to know that 388,700 tons of mezcal agave are produced in Mexico on more than 25,000 hectares, which translates into more than 11.3 million liters of mezcal, according to data from the Mexican Mezcal Quality Regulatory Council.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Government of the State of Puebla (Sadr), announced the Puebla 2025 National Mezcal Meeting, which will take place from September 11 to 14 at the William O. Jenkins Convention Center.

The event seeks to establish itself as the main space for the articulation, identity, and promotion of the mezcal sector in Mexico, as well as to strengthen the cultural, social, and economic value of the communities that produce this ancestral beverage, a symbol of identity and pride for Puebla and the entire country.

In his participation, Héctor Arronte Calderón, General Coordinator of Agricultural and Livestock Production at AGRICULTURA, provided mezcal production data using figures from the Mexican Mezcal Quality Regulatory Council.

He also highlighted the importance of this production chain, which generates more than 55,000 direct jobs and 210,000 indirect jobs, which will undoubtedly continue to grow. He emphasized: “Today, it has great potential and a great future through agave production, but above all, the added value of mezcal.”

Arronte Calderón added that “through mezcal, Mexican culture and the richness of Mexican products are being made visible around the world. Furthermore, it is bringing highly profitable economic activity to the Mixteca region of Puebla, an area that would traditionally have been considered lost.”
