Special forces from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) and the Ministry of the Navy (Semar) have carried out various operations in Durango, resulting in the seizure of weapons and drugs, the dismantling of drug labs, and the arrest of Gerardo, alias “G-1,” who was an operator of the armed group “Los Cabrera,” a faction of “El Mayito Flaco.”

According to El Sol de Durango, the most significant operations deployed were at least eight, between 2023 and September 2025.

It was in the early morning of January 20, 2023, when a special group from the Sedena carried out an operation in the El Cortijo residential neighborhood, located north of the capital city, where they managed to capture Gerardo, alias “El G-1” or “El Licenciado.”

The detainee was a high-ranking figure within the “Los Cabrera” armed group, allied with Ismael Zambada, the Sicairos “El Mayito Flaco,” who was responsible for corrupting Durango politicians.

Days after the arrest, in February of that same year, a joint operation between the Sedena (National Security Forces), the Semar (Semar), and the National Guard (GN) was deployed in the municipality of Tamazula, specifically in the town of El Durazno.

There, with the support of armed helicopters, they carried out overflights over various parts of the mountainous area, allegedly in search of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, alias “El Guano,” brother of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.

Subsequently, in November of last year, the Navy carried out operations in both Sinaloa and Durango, where they managed to destroy a marijuana plantation weighing more than five tons in the community of Las Duras, part of the municipality of Tamazula.

That same month, military helicopters forced two small planes to land in the municipality of Tamazula, after local residents reported that a few days earlier, two aircraft had dropped explosives from the air as part of attacks between the Sinaloa Cartel factions, “Los Chapitos” and “La Mayiza.”

In January of this year, members of the Sedena (National Guard) and the GN (National Guard) mounted an operation on the Durango-Mazatlán highway and located homemade explosives, live ammunition, tactical clothing and equipment, and tire-puncturing equipment.

In May 2025, military personnel carried out operations in the municipality of Topia, where they detected a drug laboratory and seized 1,500 liters of chemical substances, 1,250 kilos of tartaric acid, and two organic synthesis reactors, all used for the production of synthetic drugs.

Also in May, a special Sedena group carried out an operation in the Real de Castilla residential neighborhood, located southwest of the capital city, allegedly in search of a high-ranking member of criminal groups operating in the state. However, they were unsuccessful.

Last weekend, Navy personnel, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), Sedena, the National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), dismantled two clandestine laboratories in the town of Carricitos, Durango, where 21 tons of suspected methamphetamine were seized.

It was in the early morning of Tuesday, September 9, when social media reported that a convoy of 18 Navy vehicles was traveling on the Durango-Mazatlán highway. Hours later, at least one operation was reported in the San Jorge neighborhood, east of the city.

State security authorities confirmed the presence of the Semar (Semar), but were not informed of the reason. They also asserted that they generally arrive unannounced and fail to report on ongoing investigations.
