The National Seismological Service announced that several mild earthquakes were recorded early Friday morning, including: at 4:30 a.m., a 3.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded 9 km east of Unión Hidalgo, Oaxaca; at 4:31 a.m., a 1.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded 3 km southwest of San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur; at 4:33 a.m., a 1.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded 2 km southwest of San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur; at 4:37 a.m., a 2.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded 28 km southwest of Tecpan, Guerrero; and at 4:47 a.m., a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded 30 km northwest of Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco.

Mexico is located in a seismic zone because five tectonic plates lie beneath the country: the Caribbean, North American, Pacific, Riviera Maya, and Cocos. Therefore, the constant interaction between these five plates places the country in a zone of high seismic activity.
