On the afternoon of September 14th, near the Plaza de Armas, accompanied by various business leaders and independent contractors, the Municipal Inspectors’ Directorate handed out 300 spaces for those who will participate in the national holiday festival.
“There are around 300 spaces; we’re practically ready, and some vendors are already setting up shop. Most of them offer prepared food, jewelry, soft drinks, and natural water,” said the Director of Municipal Inspectors, Ubaldo Salazar Chávez.
The municipal official emphasized that products such as corn on a stick, alcoholic beverages, gunpowder, and foam are not permitted for sale, and if detected, they will be confiscated in order to preserve public safety.
“Last year, we seized some foams being sold in the Plaza de Armas during the gunpowder patrols we were conducting. These will also be confiscated, as will alcoholic beverages. We will be conducting ongoing patrols to review permits.”
The permit issued by the Economic Activities Commission will be valid until 1:00 a.m., at which time public services personnel will begin cleaning the September 15th fairgrounds to have everything ready for the September 16th parade, which will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Salazar Chávez emphasized that they will also conduct patrols on the day of the national parade to remove street vendors who do not have the necessary permits to remain on the site, and even some who often hinder the parade. Last year, just over 15 street vendors were removed.
“In previous years, we’ve had some vendors on tricycles selling their goods, but our fellow inspectors patrol the streets and remove them so they don’t obstruct the parade,” concluded the Director of Municipal Inspectors.
