A Guanajuato teacher lost his life in the Iztapalapa tragedy after a gas tanker truck crashed and exploded last Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Eduardo Noé García Morales, a 55-year-old native of San Miguel de Allende. Known to his students simply as “Noé,” he was a beloved teacher at two schools: Adolfo López Mateos Technical Secondary School 53 in Santa Cruz Meyehualco, Iztapalapa, and Bicentennial High School 327 of the Independence of Mexico, in the State of Mexico.
The accident occurred just after he was leaving middle school to head to high school, where he had his second job. He was struck by the fire on the way. Although paramedics managed to transport him alive to a hospital, he died hours later from his serious injuries.
Guanajuato authorities confirmed that this teacher was among the victims of the explosion, and as of Thursday afternoon, they had not been able to locate his family.
As a tribute, the schools where he taught suspended activities. Some students traveled to the scene of the accident to pay tribute, placing flowers, candles, and a photograph of the teacher.
