Amid applause, drum music, and the chiming of the municipal clock, the 70th edition of the Conspiracy Race was held this afternoon, a sporting and symbolic event that has ignited the city’s patriotic spirit for more than six decades.
The race started punctually at 5:00 PM in front of the Parish of San Miguel Arcángel, running through the cobblestone streets steeped in history, covering an approximate five-kilometer distance that tested the endurance of dozens of participants.
Streets such as Correo, Núñez, Santo Domingo, San Francisco, Cuna de Allende, and Aldama became the setting for the living memory of the libertarian movement.
More than just a running race, this event serves as a selection process for the runners who, in the early hours of September 15, will carry the symbolic libertarian flame from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende.
This year, 18 men and 10 women were chosen to represent the city in this tradition that evokes the beginnings of Independence.
Raúl Vallejo, municipal treasurer, noted, “The atmosphere is still there; we can feel the tradition, the sport, the brotherhood, and the excitement. This race is very much ours, very San Miguel, and we are very proud of it. We thank Mayor Mauricio Trejo for always supporting the event.”
The festive atmosphere was highlighted by the participation of entire families, national and international visitors who took the opportunity to document the course with photographs and videos. With this 70th edition, the Conspiracy Race reaffirms its role as one of the most important cultural and sporting symbols of San Miguel de Allende, an annual event that unites sport, identity, and historical memory.
