This Tuesday, the body of a man was found inside the Coppel department store in the municipality of Las Choapas, in the southern state of Veracruz, after a fire broke out on September 13.
The discovery was reported after 10:00 a.m. on the upper floor of the establishment, while workers were carrying out the removal work, who immediately notified authorities.
The body, which belongs to an adult male, was completely burned and covered by the remains of the ceiling and walls that had collapsed after the fire.
After the discovery, the avenue was closed by police officers.
Body may be that of a missing adult
Before 1:00 p.m. this Tuesday, officers from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) began the process of recovering the body with the arrival of personnel from the Coatzacoalcos Forensic Services, amid a heavy security operation.
According to initial reports, the body may belong to Mr. Jorge Alejandro Priego, 65, who was reported missing by his relatives on Saturday and who had gone to the store that day.
In a brief statement, Coppel confirmed and regretted this second death, assuring that they are working closely with the authorities.
On Sunday, the first death was confirmed: a young woman identified as Karina Cortés, 21, who died in a Coatzacoalcos hospital after suffering burns over 90 percent of her body.
Authorities Continue Investigation
At least two people are currently hospitalized after suffering burns, so store representatives assure that they are monitoring the medical care they receive.
Meanwhile, the ministry authorities continue their investigations to confirm the causes of the accident.
