Durango Consolidates Its Reputation as a Safe Haven for Migrants from Sinaloa
According to information reported by journalist Claudia Barrientos, Durango business leaders and authorities support the arrival of investment and families, but urge vigilance to avoid affecting the state’s stability.
Durango has become an attractive destination for families and workers from states like Sinaloa, a phenomenon that is already positively impacting housing demand and the local economy, as confirmed by the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Raúl Montelongo Nevárez.
In line with what the state governor stated, Montelongo emphasized that this population mobility is particularly reflected in the growth of private subdivisions. “The truth is that, at the end of the day, all legitimate investments are welcome and contribute to the Durango economy,” he stated.
Although he acknowledged that there have been no formal approaches with Sinaloa business leaders, he explained that the presence of families and workers from that state is increasingly noticeable. “We see that there are already many people living and working in Durango. It’s a natural situation: violence in Sinaloa is a complicated reality. I think they see Durango as a safe, peaceful city, and the truth is that people are welcome, especially when they come to contribute.”
Official Position: Opportunities and Warnings
Local Representative Alejandro Narváez agreed that the arrival of people from Sinaloa could be positive for Durango: “It’s great that Durango offers a quality life; those who bring the best of their personal and life experiences are welcome.”
However, he warned of the need to maintain security vigilance to preserve the stability that characterizes the state: “Durango is a safe state, boasting excellent conditions. But it’s important that other types of people who could undermine our peaceful environment don’t arrive.”
Narváez also reported that a bill is being drafted to professionalize and regulate the real estate sector, with the goal of ensuring that the increased demand for housing benefits Durango society under a framework of legal certainty.
