With the arrival of the Navigator of the Seas cruise ship this Monday, the month of September now has four vessels on record, bringing more than 15,700 passengers to Mazatlán, said the head of the Municipal Economic Development, Tourism, and Fisheries Department (Sedectur), Alí René Zamudio Garza.
He reported that the four cruise ships that have arrived are estimated to have generated an economic impact of 24 million pesos for their passengers and crew. The arrival of the Ruby Princess, scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, is still pending.
He added that 15 cruise ships are scheduled to arrive in October, marking the start of the high season for sea-based tourism. Therefore, the municipality declares itself ready to serve tourists through the Tourist Assistance and Protection Center (Capta).
“What we’ve seen is that more passengers have arrived. Larger cruise ships have arrived with greater capacity, and we’re going to surpass last year’s record number of visitors. Additionally, we have assistance from inside the Asipona terminal through the Tourist Assistance and Protection Center. We also have CAPTA personnel providing assistance to those who choose to walk the blue line along the route.”
On another topic, the municipal official reported that regarding fishing in the Huizache area, he said they are maintaining close communication with fishermen, who have expressed that catches have started to decline, but that they hope that this Wednesday, with the lunar effect, their catches will increase.
He assured that so far, no fishing cooperative in the Huizache area has requested support from the administration headed by Estrella Palacios Domínguez.
He noted that the commitments he made to improve the dirt roads to the fishing area have already been fulfilled, but that if additional assistance is needed, it could be requested from the corresponding authority.
