Thunderstorms and sweltering heat: Sonora will experience a week of extreme weather.

43

This week, the state of Sonora will face a dangerous combination of intense rains and extreme temperatures. This was announced by the state government through the State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC), warning that the Mexican monsoon will continue to generate afternoon and nighttime rainfall, while an anticyclonic circulation will keep the temperature between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius, with even higher wind chills.

Despite the beginning of autumn, the heat continues unabated. Current atmospheric conditions favor a humid and stifling environment, especially in the northwest, center, and south of the state, where the population is expected to face risky days due to prolonged exposure to the sun.

Storms with wind and electrical activity

Armando Castañeda Sánchez, head of Civil Protection in Sonora, explained that the monsoon, combined with a divergence in altitude, will cause thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain, accumulating between 25 and 50 millimeters. These rains will be accompanied by wind gusts exceeding 60 kilometers per hour, mainly in the afternoon and evening, affecting regions in the north, northeast, east, and south of the state.

In addition, a new cold front is expected to reach the country’s northwestern border between September 25 and 26, which could generate slight drops in temperature, although wind chills will remain high due to persistent humidity.

Tropical Storm Narda Active Watch

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Narda, located in the Pacific Ocean, remains under observation. Although its trajectory is pointing west-northwestward, it does not pose a direct threat to Mexican territory at this time, according to official reports.

Measures to protect yourself from extreme weather

Authorities recommend that the public:
