In a span of just 72 hours, two Catholic churches in Puerto Vallarta were robbed, and authorities have so far failed to arrest the perpetrators.
The first incident occurred on the night of Friday, September 19, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where individuals forced a window to enter the building. Pastor Arturo Arana López, 52, reported that upon arriving Saturday morning, he noticed that the locks on eight collection boxes had been broken into, from which between 8,000 and 10,000 pesos in cash, along with other items, had been stolen. After the discovery, the priest reported the incident to 911, which led to the intervention of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The second robbery occurred at Our Lady of Refuge Parish, located on Argentina and Peru Streets. According to parish priest Miguel Ángel Aguirre Torres, 50, around 6:00 a.m. on Monday, he discovered that the main gate had been forced open and the doors of a warehouse and office were damaged. The perpetrators stole a hydroelectric plant worth approximately 4,000 pesos and a drill worth 500 pesos. Although the police were informed of the incident, the priest chose not to file a formal complaint.
Both cases were filed with the Public Ministry, with no progress in the investigation or arrests so far reported.
