Soriana, a chain of self-service stores, and FAZT, an electric charging infrastructure company, launched two new ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles in Nuevo León.

“We continue to expand our infrastructure to offer our customers alternatives that benefit both their lifestyle and the environment,” said Gerardo Díaz Canales, Director of Real Estate Development for Organización Soriana.

The new charging stations are located in the Soriana Híper Lincoln and Soriana Híper Lindavista stores in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

The alliance between the retailer and FAZT, announced in December 2024, seeks to create a network of more than 1,000 electric vehicle charging stations in Mexico by 2030, located in Soriana store parking lots.

Since then, they have installed just nine stations in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Morelos, Valle de Bravo, State of Mexico, and Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila.

However, the infrastructure installed so far falls short of the 57 stations they planned to open this year.

According to figures provided by Soriana, these stations have recorded more than 24,000 charging sessions and served more than 1,400 users.

In addition, the emission of 68,200 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) has been avoided, equivalent to what more than 3,400 mature trees would absorb in a year.

Soriana emphasized in a statement that this new line of business seeks to address the need for charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles in Mexico.

The supermarket chain cited data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) indicating that 393,406 light vehicles were sold between January and August of this year, 19,852 of which were electric and plug-in hybrids.

“These figures show that electromobility is gaining ground and that expanding the charging network is essential to sustain its growth,” emphasized the retailer, which currently operates 778 self-service stores and 41 price clubs.
