Women from Morelia and La Piedad participated this Sunday in the Rebozo Walk, to promote the use of this iconic traditional garment of indigenous women in Mexico.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Rebozo Walk departed from Fray Antonio de San Miguel Causeway, heading toward the Cathedral on Madero Oriente Avenue.

According to Aurora Medina, co-founder of the Rebozo Festival, the goal is to make the rebozo fashionable and to increase the visibility of the artisans responsible for its creation.

Aurora Medina explained that if the use of the rebozo is not promoted on a daily basis, there is a risk that in the short or medium term it will be limited to exhibitions and museums.

When asked about the possibility of removing the rebozo from its historical, social, and political context, Aurora Medina mentioned that “it will probably transition to a luxury garment,” but at the same time, its practical use by the country’s women will continue.

She noted that the Rebozo Walk is associated with the Rebozo Festival and began in May 2024 with the goal of being held quarterly.
