Hermosillo Water reported that, due to the turbidity recorded at the El Molinito dam, a pressure control scheme will be implemented in the distribution network this Tuesday, September 30th, which will cause supply variations in different areas of the Sonora state capital.
Why will there be water failures?
The agency explained that, after last Friday’s rains, the flow of sand and sediment into the dam forced the water treatment plants to stop operating.
This condition reduced production by approximately 300 liters per second, primarily affecting the central and northern lower sectors of Hermosillo.
To balance the service, a temporary pressure regulation scheme will be implemented, which will also impact the southern sector, where users could experience low pressures or intermittent service.
When will service be normalized?
Technicians noted that, three days after the entry of sediment-laden water, the turbidity has not decreased, making it impossible to reactivate the water treatment plants.
Therefore, the pressure control scheme will continue until conditions allow normal operation.
Agua de Hermosillo asked for the understanding of users and recommended having storage systems such as water tanks or cisterns in place to deal with extraordinary situations like this.
