New elevated bridge reduces travel in Puerto Vallarta by up to 90%

With the implementation of the overpass at the Las Juntas Interchange, travel time between Puerto Vallarta International Airport and the airport has been drastically reduced. Previously, it took drivers up to two hours during rush hour. Now, this five-kilometer journey can be completed in just 10 or 15 minutes at most, representing a reduction of approximately 90 percent.

Before the opening, drivers traveled at an extremely slow pace, traveling only 50 meters per minute, causing constant traffic jams and long waits. While additional works at the interchange—such as the installation of the pedestrian bridge—are still underway and require traffic officers to temporarily halt traffic, the difference in mobility is already noticeable.

Drivers and public transportation users agree that traffic conditions have improved considerably and that the overpass represents a relief for those who travel daily between the airport, the hotel zone, and the Las Juntas district. “You can really notice the change before, you wouldn’t even think about arriving early. Now traffic is faster. They’ve been slow for a while,” commented one of the thousands of motorists who use this route daily.

This advance in road infrastructure is shaping up to be a direct benefit not only for the local population, but also for tourists arriving in Puerto Vallarta, by significantly reducing travel times in the northern part of the city.
