The Mexican Ministry of Tourism awarded Zihuatanejo the Diamond National Tourism Quality Distinction for Magical Towns, making this destination the first in the country to receive this recognition.
The award was presented to Zihuatanejo Mayor Liz Tapia Castro during the World Tourism Day celebrations held at the third regular session of the COPLADEG Tourism Sector Subcommittee, held in Acapulco.
Additionally, the 2025-2027 State Tourism Program was approved during the regular session, which promotes the development of the eight regions as destinations of cultural, natural, and gastronomic richness.
Recognitions and designations were also presented, including: “Wonders of the Home of the Sun,” tourism quality distinctions for magical towns and neighborhoods, certifications for traditional cooks, and recognition of the careers of guides and service providers.
